Pediatric Services
You’ll find expert pediatric services combined with compassion — ensuring your child feels cared for and understood.
Emergency and urgent care services for infants, children and teenagers.
The pediatricians at ProMedica Toledo Hospital Emergency and Urgent Care specialize in treating infants, children and teens who experience sudden injuries or illnesses. These professionals diagnose and treat a wide range of medical conditions in children, day and night. Even if you aren’t sure the situation is an emergency, it’s best to seek medical help.
We also understand that young patients can sometimes be uncooperative because they fear being in the ER or urgent care. Our compassionate emergency pediatricians can help soothe your child’s nerves as they start the healing process.
Expert Pediatric Care and Fair Billing
Emergency and urgent care under one roof makes it easy for your child to get the care they need at any time, day or night. Our fair billing practices mean you pay only for the level of service we provide your child. Pediatric-trained, emergency medicine staff will care for your child, and you’ll pay a lower fee if your child only needs urgent care services during the visit.
When to Bring Your Child to the ER
It’s important to seek emergency medical attention for a child so their condition doesn’t get worse and potentially cause permanent harm. Symptoms of a serious medical emergency include:
- Allergic reaction
- Animal bites or insect stings
- Complaining of severe pain
- Complications of a chronic illness
- Cuts or open wounds
- Foreign objects that need to be removed
- Head injury
- High fever
- Loss of alertness or consciousness
- Rhythmic jerking
- Severe injury from a car wreck, fall, burn, choking, drowning, electric shock, etc.
- Sudden and unusual changes in behavior, such as apathy
- Swallowing a toxic substance
- Trouble breathing
- Turning blue
If your child stops breathing, loses consciousness, is at risk of losing a limb, or you fear their life is in danger, call 911 right away. When paramedics arrive, they can begin providing critical care en route to our ER.
Urgent Care Services
Our walk-in urgent care is conveniently open from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. every day. We treat sprains, stomachaches, allergic reactions, common cold symptoms and many other conditions. Even if your child isn’t having a medical emergency, our caring and compassionate physicians and staff offer excellent care for less serious issues.
How to Prepare for a Trip to the ER
- Keep a list of your child’s medicines and health history in case there’s a medical emergency.
- Bring your health insurance card and emergency contact information.
- Give the name of your child’s primary pediatrician to the ER staff.
- Be prepared to give the ER pediatrician complete details about why you brought your child to the emergency room.
- As a parent, you are your child’s best advocate, so if you feel the need to speak up, don’t hesitate to ask questions or voice your concerns. No question is too silly when it comes to your child’s health and well-being.
- Ask questions about aftercare once your child leaves the ER.
- When you get home, call your child’s regular pediatrician to let them know what happened at the ER. It’s likely they will want to see your child for a follow-up visit to check on their health.
